On
May 18, 2006
the Raritan River Region will hold its
third Chinese (silent) auction. Our
regular business meeting will be abridged to allow time for this stellar event.
Since we didn't have an
auction in 2005, that means you should have TWO years worth of stuff to
bring!
What exactly is a Chinese
Auction?
We start off with two basic
premises, the most important being that one person’s trash is another’s
treasure. The second idea is that nearly everyone has something
they don’t need. Look around your basement, your work shop, your garage. Is
there a part, maybe obtained at a flea market, that wasn’t correct when you got
it home? Is there something left over from a vehicle you no longer own? Is
there something that your wife/husband has been nagging you to get rid of for
years, but you don’t feel justified in just throwing it out? Bring it to the
June meeting. These are the items desired for our Chinese Auction.
When you arrive, there will be tables set up. As donations are received, a
cup will be set up in front of each item / donation. Tickets will be sold.
These tickets may be placed in the cup of your choice. At the end of the
night, one ticket per item will be drawn. The lucky ticket holders will be
the proud new owners of these items.
Donations should be automotive
by nature and Cadillac / LaSalle, if possible. Examples are unwanted hub
caps, or other parts that can be transported easily. Also any automobilia
is welcome. Literature is a hot item on the flea market circuit these days.
Maybe you have a brochure for a car you no longer own? The possibilities are
limitless.
All proceeds from this event will be
donated to our treasury. This is designed to be a fun event. Without
divulging any privileged information, or promising items that won’t be there,
certain club members have advised me of their desire to bring very collectable
items. As the saying goes, a wonderful time is guaranteed for all.
Donated items from the
previous two
year's auctions included:
