Bill
Introduced in U.S. House of Representatives to
Stop Sale of E15 Gas Pending Scientific Analysis
SEMA-supported legislation (HR 875) has been
introduced in the U.S. House of
Representatives directing the National
Academies to conduct a scientific assessment
on how gasoline blended with 15 to 20 percent
ethanol (E15 and E20) may impact
gasoline-powered engines, vehicles and related
equipment. The analysis would consider a
variety of issues including tailpipe and
evaporative emissions, impact on OBD systems,
materials compatibility and fuel efficiency.
The National Academies would have 18 months to
conduct its analysis, during which time sales
of E15 blended gas would be halted. HR 875 has
been assigned to the House Committee on
Science, Space, and Technology for
consideration. The Committee passed a similar
bill last year but no further action took
place. The U.S. Senate is currently
considering another SEMA-supported bill ( S.
344) to ban sales
of E15.
We Urge You
to Contact Your Congressional Representative to
Request Support for H.R. 875
 | H.R. 875 acknowledges that E15 causes
corrosion with incompatible parts. Ethanol
increases water formation which can then
create formic acid and corrode metals,
plastics and rubber. The EPA allows use of E15
in 2001 and newer vehicles, but agreed to make
it “illegal to fuel pre-2001 vehicles” with
E15. A required warning label on the gasoline
pump will not protect consumers from
accidentally misfueling these
vehicles/engines.
|
 | H.R. 875 prevents the EPA from permitting
the sale of E15 before the report from the
National Academies has been submitted to the
House Science Committee.
|
 | H.R. 875 potentially protects millions of
vehicles and engines that can be harmed from
E15. The EPA was premature in permitting the
sale since it is still unclear how E15 impacts
tailpipe and evaporative emissions, OBD
systems, materials compatibility and fuel
efficiency. |

Discontinued... |

Articles Needed For |
| Caddy
Corner Newsletters! |
|
At the recent board meeting it was
decided to discontinue the monthly Directors Message. This decision, quite
frankly was made because our board members have run out of ideas for
future articles. They have put forth a valiant effort over these many
months and have contributed greatly to the quality and readability of our
newsletters. But now it’s time to hear from our silent majority, namely
you our members.
There is an old saying that a
picture is worth a thousand words. If that's true, then a picture and an
accompanying story about your classic car should be worth at least a
couple of hundred words.
We
want to encourage each and every club member to consider submitting an
article for inclusion in our upcoming Caddy Corner publications.
Your story should be car-related,
and could be a personal story about one of your classic cars, such as how
you found and acquired your first classic car, or the article can cover
any other car-related topic. We have so many members with interesting
stories that de-serve to be told, so please put pencil to paper and write
a story to share with your friends in the club.
To mark this new beginning,
our first member submission was by
Pat Rizzo.
Pat told us a poignant story in poetic form of a dream, a car and a loving
spouse. Thanks, Pat, for this great submission and thanks to all of our
board members for a job well done.
Now it’s your turn, so get the pen
and paper out and start writing. Please submit all articles to Lynn
D'Agostino at LynnD@rrrclc.org

The
CLCMRC (Cadillac-LaSalle Club Museum and Research Center) museum, the
Cadillac Gallery, is now in operation at the Gilmore Car Museum in Hickory
Corners, MI. As part of their agreement with Gilmore, the CLCMRC is
renting the Gilmore's Carriage House until their new museum building is
constructed.

Local “RRR” Referrals |
|
Through
discussions at our October meeting, we thought a compilation of local
vendors and service people who have assisted us with our vehicles would be
useful to all. There are many vendors we have had good experiences
with that we have shared with our fellow club members through questions
and conversations. The thought is to compile a quick list we can
share with all. This could include general repair shops, body shops,
local vendors, specialized vendors by production year, some guy who has a
bunch of inventory in his garage that is always in good shape and well
priced, etc. Any business that is local that you would recommend to
a club member is the goal for this list. The template, below, is
what we would like to include in our directory. If you have a vendor
you would like to include, please fill out the information request and
email or mail it to
Ted
Mandalakis. We will distribute the compiled list in
the near future. |
