1956 Cadillac Series 62 Sedan

(Upper left) Dan's nephew, Zach, gets a kick out of seeing his reflection in all that Cadillac-chrome!

I purchased the sky blue 1956 Cadillac sedan in April of 1999 after reading a classified ad in Old Cars Weekly. At the time, I was driving a 1964 Cadillac limousine and wasn’t in the market for another Cadillac, but the asking price was hard to ignore. The car was located in Pittsburgh Pennsylvania, so I arranged to drive out with a buddy of mine in my truck and pilot the Caddy home. The 300-mile trip back to Chester County was uneventful. Shortly after the purchase of the ’56, I sold the limousine to a friend.

My sedan is mostly all original. The car was well cared for during the past 47 years needing only a repaint and some tuning up under the hood. In the four years that I’ve owned the car it has proved to be a reliable driver. Matter of fact, every time my 1990’s vintage vehicle is in the shop for repairs I know I can rely on the ’56 to get me to work on time.

Two years ago my wife and I moved into a new home. The week of settlement my truck blew a transmission seal and was out of commission for that entire week. I wound up driving the Cadillac every day to work stuffed from floor to headliner with packed boxes. After work each day I would drive to the new home and drop off another load. During that time I often thought of selling that damn truck and buying another ’56 Cadillac sedan.

During the summer my wife and I will often drive the Caddy to Cape May, New Jersey and no matter how many times I make that trip those New Jersey gas station attendants can never figure out where that darned filler cap is. Living in PA, I’ve gotten used to pumping my own gas.
