"Rosalind" is one of 3,950 1955
Eldorado Convertibles produced in 1955. Named after Rosalind Russel,
(because of the actress' fiery personality and flamboyant role in her best
remembered movie, Auntie Mame), this Eldorado was the introduction of the
notable "shark fin" styling.
I purchased "Rosalind" in January,
1996 in a condition that can only be described as a shell. The car had no
interior, a very tired engine, and a body with no paint. This was to be a
major restoration challenge.
Luckily, I was friends with Ron
Bordens, who is a Cadillac LaSalle Club member, and also an owner of a 1955 Eldo
Convertible. Ron orchestrated the various stages of the project starting
with the rebuilding of the engine, and going from there.
It took several years, hard work,
hard-earned money, Ron, and various other restoration specialists to bring
"Rosalind" to a trophy winning condition. The car is finished in the
original Mandan Red paint, with a matching red and white leather interior, and
white convertible roof.
