The
Royal Cadillac Dealer Show |
|
A
Century of Progress on Display |
|
By Ray
Koziol |
| |
|
One
hundred years ago a 1911 Cadillac Model 30 rolled out of the Detroit
factory. As it left 450 Amsterdam Street little did it, or the craftsmen
who assembled it, or even Henry Leland, who was working in his upstairs
office know, that this particular Cadillac was about to embark on a
century long journey. A journey that starts in 1911 with transport to a
Cadillac dealership and one which would be celebrated 100 years later at
yet another dealership ……… Royal Cadillac of Florham Park, New Jersey.
|
| |
|
It was
on June 18th, 2011 that this celebration took place as the
Raritan River Region held its 5th dealer show at Royal Cadillac
and what better way to celebrate a century of progress than to have this
grand lady exhibited on the dealership floor. A testament to the lasting
quality of a Cadillac, she sat gracefully at the forefront of the
dealership and immediately captured the attention of all those who
entered. On this day visitors had the unique opportunity to view 100
years of Cadillac innovation as they compared the 1911 to the 2011
Cadillac line-up. Much has changed, but Cadillac quality has remained a
constant. |
| |
|
Since this was a birthday of sorts, a birthday cake was a must and so at
11:00 AM everyone was invited into the dealership to have a piece of
birthday cake, a cake by the way which prominently displayed a picture of
the ’11 as part of its frosting. Our thanks go out to region member Bob
Losco for permitting us to display his 1911 Model 30 Touring. |

By all levels of measure
this show was a success.
We attracted over
90 cars with 60 of those being Cadillacs or
LaSalles. Our new Region
Judging Team headed by Chief Judge Bernie Cooney also had the opportunity
gain some practical experience. Last year the region formed its own team,
basing the program on a Judging Manual and Judging Form prepared by Ray
Koziol. Armed with training and knowledge Bernie’s team set forth to the
field and did an admirable job of evaluating a large field of Cadillacs
and LaSalles. This year we incorporated the use of a computer to aid us
in not only the show registration process but also with judging lists and
award point tabulations. This innovation proved to be very valuable and
will continue to be used at future shows. |
| |
|
The large turnout
necessitated 10 judging classes, with each class receiving 1st,
2nd and 3rd place awards. In addition we had 2 Best
of Show awards, one for best pre-war and one for best post-war as well as
a Dealers Choice Award. Our winners were as follows: |

This is was our 5th show at Royal Cadillac which
demonstrates the strong working relationship we have with this
dealership. That relationship was cultivated and maintained through the
hard work and diligence of Darren Muso. Darren is an active member of our
region and has coordinated not only this show but many others as well.
But as Darren will point out a show of this size is a team effort.
Planning and an open line of communication to both the dealership and
region show committee members is crucial. As an example, Pat Caruso
handled all of the registration duties including processing all mail in
registrations, preparing the car I.D. cards, preparing the initial list of
those cars to be judged, assembling the registration packages, updating
the aforementioned spreadsheet and overseeing the registration desk on the
morning of the show. Joe Manna distributed flyers promoting the show at
Cruise Nights and other events; Ted Mandalakis, Bob Gluck and Pat Caruso
handled show photography and there are numerous others who contributed by
doing field duty, serving as parking marshal’s, registration personnel as
well as those performing various other duties. It was this team effort
and the commitment of all those involved that made this show a success.
Our thanks to all those who helped and to those that participated. We
look forward to next year’s show at Royal Cadillac. |
