The
New Jersey Region, AACA and the Raritan River Region, CLC join forces for
a short but spectacular tour of one of New Jersey prime historic sites.
The former Edison Laboratory, 211 Main Street, West Orange, NJ 07052 has
long been a destination for tourists from all over the country and
abroad. At the turn of the century (THIS CENTURY) the National Park
Service closed this facility to embark on a multi-year complete renovation
of this historic site. The result is a unique look back at the master of
invention. The extensive renovation also made this site better than 90%
ADA complaint. Further work remains to be done, but the facility is once
again open to the public. We will also tour Edison's home, Glenmont,
located in the exclusive gated community, Llewellyn Park, located just up
the hill from the laboratory. Glenmont is NOT ADA compliant, and has
stairs. When we reach Glenmont we will be divided into two groups, one to
tour the house, and the other to tour the grounds and garage. What
wonders are parked in Edison's garage? Edison tinkered extensively with
electricity (That's where Consolidated Edison in New York got its name).
Could there be electric vehicle charges gathering dust? Perhaps even a
complete electric car?
After viewing the
wonders of Llewellyn Park and Glenmont, we will reconvene at the
laboratory for a tour of the story behind Edison's myriad of inventions.
After our tour we will proceed to
Irving's Deli
on NJ
10 in Livingston for lunch.
Irving's Deli
is patterned after the great Jewish Delis of Lower Manhattan and
Brooklyn. Mark Singer promises one and all an unparalled lunch, and
offers all tourists a whopping 15 % discount. Did someone say
cheesecake? It is a good thing that touring naturally works up an
appetite. You won't leave Irving's hungry!
Meet at the Edison National Historic Site, 211 Main Street, West Orange,
NJ, 07052, at 10 am, Sunday, June 13, 2010. Parking is in the lots right
across the street from the laboratory. Purchase your tickets and we will
depart for the short trip to Glenmont.
Admission to both museums and entrance to Llewellyn Park are covered by
one $7.00 ticket.
The tour is strictly limited (by the
friendly but firm National Park Rangers) to 30 people.

Directions from
the Livingston Circle:
"Opportunity is
missed by most people because it is dressed in overalls and looks like
work."
-- T. A. Edison
"I have not
failed. I've just found 10,000 ways that won't work."
-- T. A. Edison
"Just because
something doesn't do what you planned it to do doesn't mean it's useless."

It should also be
noted that
Irving's Deli
will be holding a weekly cruise night on Wednesday nights this year. They
say they will do everything in their power to make sure everyone has a
good time. (Their crème soda is nothing to sneeze at.)
