It was the best of times, it was the worst of times. No! Wait! It was
a GREAT time! Let me tell you all about it.
The
main branch of the Somerset County Library System at Bridgewater and the
Raritan River Region, CLC have had a great relationship. When the RRR
needed meeting space, it was made available to us. When the SCLS need old
cars to visit assisted living facilities, the RRR was there. In addition
to having more information that any place in cyber space, the library has
always been able to answer (yes real people!) any question, or point one
in the right direction to look for the answer. They may not be able to
rebuild your carburetor, but they can give you information on the design,
history and engineering principles of fuel delivery systems since the dawn
of time operable. And that doesn't consider their myriad of "how to"
books. Rich Loomis and his crack reference staff also have another
talent: They know how to organize a car show.
We know the library is good at research. They ascertained, and presented,
the three most important ingredients to a collector car show: Cars,
entertainment and spectators. The field of about 50 show cars entertained
a never ending stream of spectators. Recorded music of a modern ilk
warmed up the crowd until local talent did a wonderful job of presenting a
variety styles and moods.
Due to an error in communication, word of this event was not received by
the RRR until the last minute. Pat Caruso, as usual, made a valiant
effort of informing our members with the club website. The results were
quite surprising. Our stalwart Cadillac and LaSalle owners showed up with
an eclectic mix of Caddy, Ford, Packard, and even reached across the pond
for a Bentley.

Leading the parade was
Pat Caruso
and his freshly restored 1975 Sedan deVille.
Following were
Joe Manna
in his 1991 Fleetwood (what a car!). Next was
Ray Koziol
in his 1964 Bentley (more about that later). Rounding out the parade were
Joe Puleo,
driving his newest toy, Buttercup. Buttercup is a uncannily original
series 62 Coupe. Following Joe were his Mom and Dad,
Sal & Pauline Puleo,
driving their recently acquired ’49 Packard Super 8 Victoria Conv.
Lurking in a corner of the parking lot,
Bernie Cooney
demonstrated his ear to ear smile, showing his newly acquired 1985 Seville
Roadster. Lurking in the far corner of the lot were
Rich Nalavany
& neighbor
Al Gionta.
They had their best foot forward showing their Shoebox Ford, a 1949 Tudor
Custom.
And speaking of spectators, good ol' Ray Koziol didn't get any rest.
Showing off the Radford coachwork on his Bentley turned into a full-time
job. Of course, that's a job that Ray handles with aplomb. This car has
all the accouterments (bar, sewing kit, picnic table, Grey Poupon), and
Ray knows how to present it.

Next year the library promises to give us a more timely notice for their
show. For the few that were able to take advantage of a last minute
notification, it was an afternoon of impromptu fun.
