ASSISTED LIVING TOURS

In mid-September, the RRR joined the NJ Region AACA for annual visits to assisted living homes in Bridgewater.  These events are sponsored by the Somerset County Library System's Outreach Program.  Naturally, these events are weather-dependent and we had one wet day and one dry day.  But when you bring cars to these appreciative residents, every day is a good one!

Avalon Assisted Living - Bridgewater, NJ - by Pat Caruso

Saturday, September 12 was a day of raindrops and sunshine.  The rain was provided by Mother Nature and the sunshine was provided by the NJ AACA as we visited Avalon Assisted Living in Bridgewater, NJ.  For a few hours that afternoon, dozens of residents dodged the raindrops to look at the seven cars on display and recount memories of years gone by.  One resident swore she had a ’55 Cadillac just like the one Bob Rankin brought to the show!  With the assistance of Bob Allen from the Somerset County Library Outreach Program, each resident was provided a ballot to vote for their favorite car.  The residents surely loved the “old iron” as our top three vote-getters were all at least 50 years old (the cars, that is!) – but the top prize went to Frank & Lia Figoratta’s 1951 Chevy.  Thanks to Aubrey Edmonds, Director of Activities, Avalon at Bridgewater and her staff for the hospitality – and the residents who braved the less than perfect weather to enjoy our cars.  Many thanks to all our participants, including the Raritan River Region Cadillac & LaSalle Club, for bringing a few hours of sunshine to a rainy afternoon at Avalon.

Thanks to:

Bob Rankin - 1955 Cadillac Series 62 Sedan

Duffy Bell - 1940 Buick Super

Don & Pauline Symonds - 1980 Oldsmobile Cutlass

Frank & Lia Figoratta - 1951 Chevy

Bob Graham - 1965 Chevy

Marc & Grace Bernstein - 1975 Pontiac Convertible

Bernie Cooney - Cadillac Seville

Pat Caruso – modern

Did anyone notice that the cars on display were ENTIRELY from General Motors?  What’s the matter?  Are non-GM’s allergic to rain?
