The phrase "Go West, Young Man" is often attributed (incorrectly) to New
York Tribune founder, Horace Greeley. (It is also the title of a Mae West
movie - but that's a story for a different day). With sunny skies on
Saturday, September 19, the NJAACA and RRR-CLC heeded the call and came
from north, south, east and west to visit - where else - but the New
Jersey Eastern Star Home. This was the second stop of the day, for our
assisted living tour, and the region provided a display that didn't
disappoint. We had sixty years worth of American iron for all to see -
and the British and Italians were represented, too! While the residents
and guests viewed our fifteen cars, we were treated to a delicious lunch,
served in Eastern Star's elegant chapel.
Many thanks to Anne Marie LeMaire, Eastern Star's Director of Activities,
and her staff, for the delicious lunch and warm hospitality. We certainly
look forward to a return visit next year.
Bob Allen, our coordinator from the Somerset County Library System's
Outreach Program, made sure all the spectators received Peoples' Choice
ballots to vote for their favorite. Bob had his work cut out for him as
selected residents were brought out to the show field to break a tie in
the voting! Don & Pauline Symonds came out on top with their beautiful
1941 Chevrolet coupe. They received a gift certificate courtesy of the
Somerset County Library. Jim Edwards and Marge Graham received beautiful
potted plant arrangements for 2nd & 3rd place, respectively, courtesy of
Eastern Star.
Thanks to everyone for contributing to a wonderful day,
