On September 7th,
members of the Raritan River Region joined members of the New Jersey
Region of the AACA to visit with the residents and staff of Harborside
Health Care located in Bridgewater, NJ.
A total of 16 cars
assembled on the front lawn to the delight of the residents. While they
inspected the cars and voted for their favorite, the drivers set up lawn
chairs under the trees and enjoyed the beauty of the day and fellowship of
friends.
Harborside
supplied a complete lunch for all. There were pony rides for the children
along with a clown and other entertainment, all provided by Harborside.
Our members who
participated included Bernie Cooney and his ‘53 Cadillac Series 62 Sedan,
Bob Rankin brought "Miss Daisy", his ‘55 Cadillac Series 62 Sedan,
Pat
Caruso who brought his ‘75 Cadillac Sedan DeVille and Ray Koziol was spied
in his top-down ‘62 Cadillac Series 62 Convertible. As the day ended and
the votes tallied it was a Raritan River Region member whose car won the
hearts of the residents and staff. Bernie Cooney and his ‘53 Cadillac
were awarded the Trophy for best car on display. Congratulations Bernie! |

On August
24, 2008, 4 members of the RRR, manning our Land Yachts, attended the Long
Island Dreamboats all GM show which was held in the Sears Auto Center in
Hicksville, NY. The fleet that made the trip was: Joe Manna,
commandeering the "91 Fleetwood"; second in line was Rosemary Spicuzza
along with her First Mate, Andrew Monahan and Deck Hand, Andrew
Jr.; Pat Caruso manning the vessel "75 Cadillac";
while Captain Bob Rankin was bringing up the rear with his private
yacht the "USS 63 Coupe DeVille". Crossing over the Goethals and
Verrazano Bridges, we knew we were entering a different continent.
Also joining the show were the Long
Island Buick and Pontiac Clubs respectively. There were approximately 120
cars in attendance. Many beautiful non Cadillacs attended as well.
Since we arrived quite early, we
happened upon the Broadway Diner and had a nice hearty breakfast and much
needed coffee. The price we pay for getting an early start!
The awards were handed out around 3:00
p.m. We then manned our vessels for the sail home which was very
uneventful except for the normal traffic around JFK airport which is
normal any time of the day. Once we passed JFK, it was smooth sailing all
the way home to New Jersey. When we arrived for a quick stop at my house,
I (Joe Manna) showed everyone my 1951 Chevy HT. |

Looks like "The
Classic Knights" of Old Bridge will be changing their name to "The Caddy Knights" at
this rate! The crowd was in awe of our Caddy tent. Unfortunately, no
one brought dogs or burgers as "cooking facilities" were available. Two
new "trophy magnets" were crowned. |
