Lester Senior Housing ~ Hanover Township |
|
SUNDAY, JULY 1, 2007
 |
| |
|
The
gentle breeze on Sunday was accompanied by the constant milling about of
spectators, as the NJ Region AACA and RRR-CLC co-hosted a
car show for the residents of Lester Senior Housing, in Hanover
Township. It wasn't long before comments of "I had one of those"
could be heard. I had the pleasure of speaking with one
gentleman, a Newark resident from way-back-when, who used to be in the
used car business. He laughed when he recounted the time he bought
five used Packards and a Cadillac V-16....for $150. They were taking
up too much room on the Packard dealers lot! Before our conversation
concluded, he showed me a picture of himself as a handsome 20-year old, in
a suit, leaning against the fender of a Pierce Arrow. As he
continued admiring the cars he thanked me for keeping this part of our
past intact. |
| |
|
Nineteen cars, spanning fifty-two years, were on
display! |
|
Pre-war represented a THIRD of the field! |
| |
|
Throughout the show, we
distributed a Peoples' Choice ballot - 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place trophies
were donated by Bernie Cooney. A few residents asked for extra
ballots since they couldn't pick only one favorite - they were happily
obliged!
Many thanks to Lester Senior
Housing for a generous invitation. And special thanks to our
host, Barbara, who coordinated the event with the Event
Chairman, Bernie Cooney. The beautiful facility, delicious
lunch, and receptive audience made this a rewarding afternoon for the very
deserving residents of Lester. |

There ought to be Balloons.
There's nothing on the highway that says "Lester". Unless you are canny
enough to know that Aidekman Family Campus includes Lester Senior
Housing, you would instinctively look for balloons. But there were none
to be seen.
A last minute invitation to the
New Jersey Region, AACA found them looking for additional participants.
The strong bond that has been growing between the two clubs showed its
benefit. The Raritan River Region, CLC did its best by publicizing the
July 1st event at the June meeting, while our webmaster plied the tools
of his trade to alert members who didn't attend the June meeting. All
total, perfect summer weather helped the two clubs rally almost 20
superb classic cars of all makes. The activities director, Barbara,
cordially welcomed all attendees with a boxed (Glatt) Kosher lunch,
while residents fondly viewed the assemblage with stories of when they
(and our cars) were young.
When it came time to tally up
votes for people's choice, Cadillacs garnered 2 of the 3 awards. Darren
Muso and Chris Pozarycki won kudos for their 1964 Convertible, as did
Steve Rose and Julie Levine for their 1941 Convertible Sedan. The
non-Cadillac winner was Bob Martin, with a truly beautiful 1930 Ford
Model "A".
Thanks go to Arthur Metcalf,
Demi Muso, Darren Muso, Chris Pozarycki, Julie Levine, Steve Rose, Bob
Rankin, Bernie Cooney, and Pat Caruso for taking time out of their busy
schedules to entertain a very special segment of our population.
Special thanks go to Pat Caruso
for designing professional people's choice ballots and windshield
cards. Pat knows how to make our region look professional. And thanks
to Barbara, who organized a great event. By the way, if you see any
stray balloons, please notify the proper authorities.
