When
you come out to the Annual Hot Rods & Harleys Show in Rahway you are
always guaranteed to see something new. Wild graphics on a
customized Harley, the latest flip-flop paint on a chop-top Merc...or if
you are really lucky, you get a see the latest tattoo designs...on the
girls that is! But anyone who attended the show on May 14 saw two
"new additions" to the RRR show field. The first was Tom LaMera's
1956 Eldorado Convertible in a stunning silver with light blue interior.
The second was Joe Puleo's 1970 Chevrolet Super Sport LS5. This
epitome of the muscle-car era is finished in it's original red, black
stripes and rare red interior. I heard one of the younger spectators
(born long after this car was made) comment to his father that "the car
looks fast standing still!". Well put, young man!
The streets near the train
station were filled with dozens of Harley Davidson motorcycles.
Stock antique bikes and the wildly customized all glistened in the
sunshine. And as you walked toward the center of town, you could
hear the live music from one of the bands playing jazz and rock. If
you were lucky enough to find the lot filled with Cadillacs, you were in
for a treat. Our hosts were kind enough to give the RRR a dedicated lot.
Our reputation must have preceded us because just about every Caddy that
showed up was ushered to this lot, whether they were RRR members or not!
No problem, it just meant we could recruit them more easily! With
the Monahan family manning the RRR tent, all visitors were greeted warmly
- and promptly given a Caddy Corner and an application !!
A BIG THANK YOU to all the
members who ventured to Rahway for our annual pilgrimage. Each year
the show gets better, and we certainly appreciate the invitation to
participate!
